Greenwich Safeguarding Children Board: Work Group: Training & Workforce Development

Training & Workforce Development Work Group

The Training and Workforce Development Work Group has a key role in supporting the work and purpose of the Greenwich Safeguarding Children Board. The Work Group supports the training team to provide a shared understanding of the importance of safeguarding training across the professional network. The Work Group analyses training needs across the network, and evaluates and monitors the provision of training through the Board.

The Work Group reviews the training plan, and helps to decide what specialist training the Board should be offering, based on identified needs, the overall work plan of the Board, and regional and national directives.

Sue Murray, the Board’s training co-ordinator, works very closely with the Work Group, and colleagues who work in Children’s Services Training. By working together, Sue is able ensure that the Board’s training programme is linked to and complemented by the other training programmes. Courses are now advertised jointly and some commissioning is occurring jointly.

Sue represents the Board on the workforce development sub group of the Children’s Trust. Her focus is on the safeguarding element of standardised induction and the Common Core of Competencies and on the pilot areas of the Common Assessment Framework and Lead Professional initiatives.

If you would like to find out what training is available through the Board, please go to the GSCB Training Brochure. There is an application form at the back of the brochure, or you can email Wendy Sweet at: safeguardingtraining@greenwich.gov.uk

The members of the Work Group include representatives from Children’s Services, Greenwich Early Years and Child Care, Metropolitan Police, Greenwich Teaching Primary Care Trust and Parental Mental Health services. Terina Riches, Director of Nursing and Patient Care at Queen Elizabeth Hospital is the Chair of this Work Group.
