The Prevention Work Group was established in September 2006 to assist and advise organisations operating in the Borough to plan and deliver services that contribute to improving outcomes for children and young people. The Work Group also acts on the Board’s behalf to communicate the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children to all individuals and organisations working in the borough.
The Work Group refers to the Board’s overall Work Plan as well as the “Every Child Matters” outcome framework to determine the scope of its work. To date, the work of the Group has focused on gathering information from across the network about current local initiatives. This process has illustrated that there is a key role for this Work Group to publicise these initiatives, but also to bring professionals together so that they are able to share their work and join forces where possible.
The Work Group will be publicising information about parents and carers rights and responsibilities with regard to leaving children and young people alone at home. This campaign will co-incide with the summer school holidays.
The members of the Work Group include representatives from Children’s Services, Greenwich Neighbourhood Services, the Metropolitan Police Safer Schools Partnership, Health Visiting Service, Home and Road Safety and a range of other services. The Chair of the Work Group is Teresa Doherty, Quality and Reviewing Officer.
