Greenwich Safeguarding Children Board: Home Page

   Home Page

The Greenwich Safeguarding Children Board (GSCB) is a statutory partnership which helps to safeguard the future of all children living in the borough. Every local authority is required to have a Safeguarding Board, and has a range of safeguarding duties to fulfil under the Children Act 2004. The Board is responsible for agreeing how organisations working in the borough co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

The new Board brings together a wide range of statutory, community and voluntary organisations and services to work together in partnership. Partners include Greenwich Council, the Metropolitan Police, the Probation Service, Greenwich Teaching PCT, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Connexions, the Youth Offending Service and Oxleas Mental Health Trust. Schools, voluntary and faith groups are also involved, participating in initiatives, special projects and publicity campaigns on a voluntary basis.

The Board meets regularly to oversee the co-operation and effectiveness of agencies working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. It is also responsible for raising awareness within the community about safeguarding children from harm. The Board is currently working on a range of specific projects, which include private fostering, the sexual exploitation of children and young people and anti-bullying.

One of the Board’s key functions is to oversee and manage the delivery of inter-agency Safeguarding Children training. This training is for all staff and volunteers in contact or working directly with children and their families in the borough. More information about training can be found on other pages of this site.
